PA entry: Did you say 16?
Oh yes. Sweet Sixteen, Rog! First time Grand Slam as a Daddy.
Was it painful? Well, last year was definitely painful to lose to the once might Rafael Nadal (who unfortunately has dropped to No. 4 rankings, sad to say!) last year. The tears stung his eyes, even though he knew deep down that Mirka at that time was pregnant with twins. Maybe my career was over already, he must have thought.
What a twist it was few months later.. to win the all-time eluded Roland Garros title to complete that Grand Slam trophies, and then to win another time in Wimbledon to surpass Pete Sampras…
What an amazing year, wasn’t it?
It made the US Open final loss to Juan Martin del Potro not that painful after all. It was as if the burden was lifted up and that Rog knew.. he did not really matter anymore if he did not win any more Grand Slams.
Wait wait..
He won yet another one, making it his fourth Australian Open title. I think him winning so many times just caused more and more miseries.. at the moment, it is a misery to Andy Murray, the sole British hope. I feel bad for both the Andys during last Wimbledon and this Australian Open.. it was like.. “so near yet so far”. If Federer did not exist, how many Grand Slam winners do you think they would be in this last 5 years or so?
