PA entry: Never easy
Nothing comes without a price. Sometimes, I find it so discouraging when I try so hard, yet it just seems that my system memory is failing me time and time again. Memory and knowledge retention becomes a huge challenge to me. When I was young, my memory used to be pretty impressive, but nowadays, I tend to only remember the most menial and useless details.
For instance, I remember my childhood friends’ phone numbers. Or I remember that crush I had in primary school. Bleah!
I forget most other things. Today, I managed to bleed one patient (YAY!) but failed on another whose arms were badly bruised. She grabbed my arm and dug her nails into my arm. There is still marks there. I wasn’t mad or frustrated at her, I was just feeling a little sad looking at her. She first complimented that we look nice etc. She refused to get her bloods taken (mind you, she needs cross matching every now and then due to her myelodysplastic syndrome). I tried talking her into getting her blood, but the veins all probably collapsed and it was just so hard, so I gave up after poking her 3 times. The ’sharp scratch’ was too painful for her that she called me and my firm partner “you lying cows!”
In between, she was asking me questions like, “Why am I not getting visitors” and “Do you believe in God?”
I feel sad for her condition, really.
Oh well.
That aside, one person I would love to take bloods from is this..

Look at his prominent veins!!
ps. PA isn’t a phlebotomist nor is she a vampire.

wow.. it is hard to get blood out from someone’s vein. i pity the nurse who had tried to take mine. usually they cannot find mine n gave up after 3 tries. somemore, the nurses are qualified. but try ur best. =)
btw, me too. i cannot seem to remember ‘things to do’ these days. sigh..

Sorry, that was actually me!
wah.. it must be daunting to see a patient like that first-hand, esp a difficult patient like her.. and at the same time, u have to be patient with her. …
get it?
hahaha
i used that in my interview :p
anyways. dont feel discouraged.. to both Lynnwei and the PA. of course, i dont know what you two are going through at the moment, but you can do it! Good luck, life wont be easy but theres many things to learn in it!
